THE POWER OF WITNESS
I attended a funeral the other day and heard one of the greatest stories I have ever heard. It was a story about two people riding in a car down a country road. This was in the days before cars became air conditioned and the car windows were down. As they rode along a bumblebee happened to fly into the car. The passenger in the car was allergic to bee stings, and so he became agitated. Seeing this, the driver of the car reached out and grabbed the bee in his closed fist. A moment later the driver released the bee. The passenger again became agitated, until the driver showed the passenger his palm. Embedded in the palm was the bee’s stinger. The driver had taken the sting for the passenger.
As you might suspect, this story is about Jesus Christ. However, larger than the story itself is the fact that we each have a redemption story to tell regarding Jesus Christ. I’m sure if you think hard enough, you can see how God has been working in your life and how God has blessed you. So, here’s a question I have for you. Are you sharing your redemption story? Are you telling people about the marvelous ways that God is working in your life? If not, how would people know?
The very last thing that Jesus told his disciples was to make more disciples. Every one of us came to know Jesus Christ because someone who cared about us took the time to tell us about it. The power of your witness might be just what is needed to help someone else to know the grace, mercy, and peace of Jesus Christ. Don’t hold back! Tell people about the ways Jesus Christ is working in your life. Who Knows? You might start a chain reaction that has no end.
